Alright, it is my pleasure to introduce Dumbledore, the cat who thinks he’s a dog! Dumbledore, or as we call him, Mr. Dumbles, loves socializing. He wants to sit on your lap and has no problem getting in your face to remind you to pet him. Every morning, my wake up call is Dumbles crying at my bedroom door. When Madison opens the door to let him in, he sprints over to me and in two leaps is curled up next to me, purring. He is a VERY vocal cat, talking to himself as he trots around, cooing as he explores. We are very lucky we found such a loving cat, but he is very lucky himself.
Madison rescued Dumbledore and his sisters and brothers who were living behind a Subway store in Landover, Md. They were only 4-6 weeks old, and were living on a heat vent to stay warm (it was December) and eating trash to survive. Madison and his coworkers captured the kittens and brought them to a local shelter, but one cat escaped. They thought he was gone, but the next day a little furry head was poking out from under the car’s dashboard. Madison volunteered to bring him home for the night. Well, it was definitely love at first sight, but since we already had Urbana we tried dropping the little guy off at a shelter.
At work the next day I received a call from the shelter to let me know that if I didn’t pick him up, they were going to have to euthanize him. HOW could they kill the sweetest little kitten? I couldn’t have that on my conscience and neither could Madison so Urbana now has a friend. As I write this, she is curled up on the opposite side of the couch snoozing, and Dumbles is standing on his hind legs, front paws on the coffee table, unabashedly trying to snitch some snacks.
Here is a video to show you his curious nature: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5KsDTsB314. If you’re bored, it’s a 1-2 min video of him literally staring a bottle of sparkling water, fascinated by the bubbles.
