Madison surprised me and took me out to America Eats Tavern, a Jose Andres restaurant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuPwy77scvw) last night. The food was SO good, I highly recommend it! We were lucky and were able to eat off their restaurant week menu which was extended an extra few days. I ordered buffalo wings and braised short ribs – best BBQ flavors I’ve had in DC. The meat was perfect. I also enjoyed a “20th Century” cocktail which was delicious- not too sweet but didn’t make me wrinkle my face as I drank it.
The restaurant is quite the experience, playing off America’s food history. Instead of describing the ingredients, meal descriptions are short stories from our country’s past. Pretty perfect concept for a restaurant in our nation’s capital. When we were waiting at the bar for our table to be ready, I noticed they have a mini oyster bar featuring oysters from Rhode Island! I almost wished I liked oysters enough to try them. =) I have to point out that they spelled Matunuck wrong, but no hard feelings, we had such a fun night!
