July 29 – Grand Canyon

So majestic

Madison only visited the Grand Canyon when we was 3, so since we were 4 hours away, we simply had to make the trip! We drove up through the dessert and Pine forests – so different from Phoenix climate, and toured around the Rim Trail for a couple hours. Really, it is beautiful – you need to see it if you haven’t!  I was lucky enough to see the canyon when I was 12 when Mom and Dad took us on an epic cross country trip.

We stayed in Flagstaff for the night and went to a Mexican restaurant recommended by Guy Fieri.  We agreed on several takeaways from the experience:

1. The salsa bar that they featured was a cool idea but not well executed – give us more options!

2.Mexican near the border is not as good as Mexican from the East Coast. I’m just as confused as you are.

3. We are Mexican food snobs. We blame DC  – there are so many great Mexican restaurants that we have become accustomed to. Also, I make some damn good tacos.

Another HUGE storm in Flagstaff!  We spent the night watching the Olympics and planning our drive back to Phoenix through Sedona.  Go Team USA!
