August 26 – Dog Days of Summer

They don’t call it the Ocean State for nothing!!

Ahh, the dogs days. We rallied the troops (me, G, and Momma) and drove down in OCNLVR to the beach.  We decided to surprise the grands and didn’t tell them I’m home. As I was walking up the stairs to their house Papa couldn’t form a sentence! Haha “Hey.. Gab… what? Oh… uh… Is that… Victoria!?”

Grandma and Uncle Steve came with us to the beach and before we soaked up some rays we went straight into that warm (but refreshing) clear, clear RI water. It was perfect. I collapsed on my towel and dozed for a bit, just listening to the waves. On our drive back to EG we stopped at Pick Pockets – best falafel I’ve ever had. Oh my goodness just delightful.

Baby G and I took Lunabear for a walk in Goddard Park with Gary who will be leaving for London in a few weeks. He’s getting a masters in statistics – we need to plan a trip to visit him in England. Pull my leg!

Blueberry pie and peach cobbler for dessert was the perfect ending to a great (unplanned) weekend home. Missing the fam already! =(

August 25 – Sweet Caroline oh oh ohhhh

Well hello again, Fenway! When I decided to go home for a spur of the moment trip  – can’t stay in one place for more than a week – I was rewarded. Country music concert, Fenway, pool… doesn’t get better that that! Red Sox were winning 9-2, and we were enjoying the great seats Dad bought through URI’s alumni association – sausage and peppers, peanuts, chants, and funny Instagram photos until… UNTIL all of a sudden it was tied 9-9, all within one inning. So we ended up losing the game but we still had so much fun  – you just can’t beat a ball game at Fenway.  Thanks Dad!

July 8 – The traveling black cats

Lesson learned: Cats don’t like change

Since we were traveling for a week we decided to take the cats up to lil Rhody and not worry about finding someone to feed them for us.  Oh my goodness, the upset! A new crate, a car, a new house, a dog, the car again – too much for two little cats. They are very happy to be home again, but how cute are they exploring the car?  I wish I could see peoples’ faces when they drove past and realized it wasn’t a dog, but a cat lounging in the back of the car and enjoying the view.

We woke up at 5 am again and made great time – we were back in DC by 12.  It was great saving time, but then we were faced with the rest of the day in DC heat.  We decided to get some groceries while we had the car and then organized the apt in the AC.  It was sort of an impromptu Spring cleaning (the Spring cleaning we never had…) and I must say our apartment looks great! Madison also whipped up a yummy salmon dinner from Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill cookbook, mmm!

Bed time, I am so completely exhausted!

July 7 – Last taste of RI for a bit

swimming puppy

Luna is such a fish!

Luna is so cute in our pool! She cries until we let her in, and although she loves playing with us, she is quite content swimming around by herself.  She walks down the stairs and launches herself into the water, doggy paddling around the perimeter around and around until she stops to catch her breath.  She has her purple ball in her mouth in the photo above which she loves playing with in the pool, and racing you to the other side to catch it. One last thing before I switch to food – she loves splashing.  If you start splashing the water she will DROP whatever she is doing and try to catch the water in her mouth, standing on her hind legs id she has to.  Just too cute, love that puppy-girl!

Madison and Gabriella played Dad and I in tennis today – we had a great little match going! I won’t say who won… (V is for Victory) but I think we all had a great time and it just makes you want to play more.  We’re going to try and play before work this week, but we’ll see how that goes when our alarms go off in the AM…

Last night in RI means I get to choose dinner! I went with grilled pizza (pepperoni, buffalo and barbeque) and Key Lime Pie for desset. YUM! Mom and Dad both rocked it so we went to bed full and happy. =)

Sad to leave everyone and head back to the DC heat, but work and reality calls!
